What Makes K3 Different?

Ian has a decade of experience working in the IT career field and has been influenced by technology his whole life. With his father having over 25 years in the industry, IT was accessible and became his passion. After spending most of his career as a System Engineer, Ian found his passion in developing lasting relationships with clients and employees. and has transitioned his talents to the overall operations of K3 Technology. Ian places a strong focus on understanding our clients’ needs and providing the solutions that help clients reach their goals. Outside of work Ian enjoys running, hiking, and enjoys time in the mountains with friends and family. He is also a football enthusiast and volunteers time as a mentor in community initiatives.

As Ian looks back on his journey with K3 so far, he shares: “In my role as COO for K3, I take a lot of personal responsibility for the success and protection of our clients. I have really enjoyed working with Kelly and K3, because we have built a team and culture that will do everything in our power to do right by the customer. I deeply value integrity and growth, and I truly believe that K3 embodies these principles. We provide an unparalleled experience and partnership for our clients than any other MSP I have been a part of, and it is something our entire team is extremely proud of!”

Jerry is an accomplished finance professional with experience in domestic, international, public and private companies, ranging in size from $2M to over $300M. His clients benefit from his strong analytical skills and experience in cost reductions, financial statement preparation and strategic planning. He is also a skilled mentor and executive level coach and enjoys motivating and guiding diverse teams.

Jerry has held CFO and senior financial positions since 2006. In his last role, he assisted the company through several high growth years with operations expansion to multiple states and navigated the sale and due diligence to a national private equity sponsor. This role was responsible for managing a significant accounting department of 11 FTE’s, implementing a fully integrated ERP accounting system (NetSuite) and managing the reporting and forecasting requirements for senior leadership and the private equity team. He has strong experience in planning, budgeting and forecasting, financial statement preparation (SEC, IFRS, GAAP), cost reduction and process improvement, financial analysis and KPI development, capital justification and variance analysis. He has extensive experience working on mergers, acquisitions, integrations, due diligence requests, negotiation letters of intent, and working with outside experts on valuations, quality of earnings studies, review and audits.

Before that, he was employed for over 20 years as a financial manager in international public and private companies in industries including manufacturing, franchising, banking, healthcare, public accounting and other professional service industries. He has specialized expertise with SaaS revenue recognition, cost accounting, inventory management and manufacturing. Jerry holds a BS in accounting from Metropolitan State University of Denver and has a CPA certification (currently inactive).

Residing in Denver, CO his entire life, Jerry loves the outdoors – especially skiing, hiking and camping, and spending time with his family and dogs.

Tom got his start in technology on the technical side as a systems engineer. In this role he would see business through the lens of technology and propose solutions others hadn’t considered that either solved a problem or introduced efficiency, productivity, and new opportunities for growth. Tom quickly realized his passion lied in these “A Ha Moments” and, building on his technical proficiency, moved towards the CIO/CTO role where he could understand the business at its foundation then propose technology solutions that made sense for the business.

As K3’s vCIO (virtual Chief Information Officer) Toms world is consumed with not what technology is, but what technology does, and he still lives for those A Ha Moments when he gets to unlock a new way of approaching business initiatives for our partners.

Outside of the walls of K3 Tom enjoys time with his wife and kids, is a die-hard baseball fan, and will pull things off of a BBQ grill that will make you question everything you’ve ever cooked.

Ryan has always enjoyed working with data and numbers, but it took him obtaining a couple of college degrees to realize his true passion and talent within. With a Master’s in Information Technology his passion for helping clients analyze data to measure and improve performance is what drove Ryan into Business Intelligence and Data Analytics.

When Ryan is not lost in the mountains hiking or fly fishing, you will find him working with clients to perform complex data migrations, implementing customized business process automation’s, and building BI platforms. His goal is to analyze your environment and internal processes and recommend / implement solutions that set your business up for success!

Shawn is a highly seasoned strategic and tactical information security and technology leader with more than 20 years of experience spanning information security, infrastructure, cloud, and application development across a wide range of industries including both private and public sector.

Prior to joining K3 Technology, Shawn was the co-founder and Chief Information Officer of a Portland, OR-based Managed IT and Security Services Provider for over 13 years, until his exit from the company in 2022.

During that time, he was responsible for leading information security programs, initiatives, and compliance for both his own company, as well as for their diverse client base.

Over the course of his nearly 25-year career in information security and technology, Shawn has worked in a variety of senior level and leadership roles involving strategy, architecture, engineering, implementation, operations, and support.

In his role as Chief Information Security Officer at K3, Shawn brings a unique mix of strategic and hands-on technical and business experience to take a risk-centered, business-first, “secure-by-design” approach to leveraging technology to innovate and meet business goals and objectives.

His strong belief is that with the proper focus on business and risk, rather than an obstacle, information security is a powerful business enabler and accelerator, safeguarding the interests of the business and enabling it to aggressively pursue its mission and objectives.

Shawn has always been a geek at heart and has been using, building, upgrading, breaking, fixing, optimizing, networking, and programming computers since the mid ’80’s when he hounded his parents for his first Commodore 64.

Outside of work, when he’s not still programming, researching, or learning, Shawn enjoys spending time with his family, reading, watching movies, and enjoying the great outdoors of the Pacific Northwest.

“If you’re going and implementing security controls and doing things just to try and be compliant, you’re doing it backwards and making it difficult for yourself. Being compliant should mean that you’ve been independently audited and certified to be secure. When you place the focus on implementing a well-designed, effective, and operational information security program appropriate for your business, you’ll find that compliance is much less of a burden and almost tends to take care of itself.”

Mike is a Colorado Springs native who, after attending college in Missouri, planted his roots in Denver with his wife and family. Always interested in electronics, while attending college he got into building custom computers and, after obtaining his bachelor’s degree in Computer Info Systems, Mike began his career working in Managed Services. Mike brings 15+ years of experience in the IT Industry and truly enjoys finding high-level solutions to difficult problems presented by our clients. Mike is creative, innovative, and truly enjoys utilizing his expertise to design and implement the solution to keep our clients moving forward. His goal is to make sure that every client has the best possible experience with our services and solutions, from start-to-finish! Outside of work, Mike still utilizes his passion for being creative by designing custom 3D prints and home remodeling.

When navigating an enigmatic industry, Mike believes that “Communication and trust are vital for any business. The ability to communicate with clients in such a way that they can understand, even when it seems complicated, is an essential skill as their guide through our industry landscape.”

Growing up in Texas, Curtis Branum always had a fascination with computers and technology. From his love of playing video games and building computers, Curtis was only 10 years old when he began troubleshooting and building technology. This passion steered him towards a career in the IT industry, where he has now amassed over six years of invaluable experience. As a Senior Support Engineer at K3 Technology, Curtis is dedicated to ensuring that our customers receive top-notch support and solutions. He aims to foster an environment where both the technology and the people behind it can thrive.

In his downtime, Curtis loves spending quality moments with his wife and two children. As a family, they are enthusiastic about Jujitsu! Curtis shares the wisdom, “Your thoughts become your reality, so always try to see the bright side and find joy in the small things.” He reminds us to cherish life’s fleeting moments, for they play a pivotal role in weaving our tapestry of memories.

Melissa Soel is a problem solver. From fixing her own computers as a child to developing and implementing brand-new solutions for clients, she enjoys nothing more than helping people. Melissa grew up in up-state NY and attended college at East Coast State College in Panama City before moving to Georgia. She has worked in the technology industry for 13+ years. Melissa is passionate about developing new innovative solutions to help clients solve bigger problems. Melissa believes “The hunger for knowledge and the will to learn is what makes the difference between success and failure in this constantly evolving industry. Knowledge is power, and the more we know about our clients’ needs shows that they will be taken care of with priority.”

Outside of work, Melissa enjoys the artful craftsmanship that comes from blacksmithing and woodworking.

Mark is a solution-oriented individual that likes to get his hands on everything IT. The combination of these two interests has led him to his role here at K3 Technology! Mark grew up in Northern California, went to undergrad school in San Diego and got his masters in New Mexico before relocating to Denver with his family. With 10+ years of experience, Mark knows that obsolete or inefficient technology is the bane of any business and finds passion in getting clients away from their old ways and helping them adopt new technologies, while improving day-to -day operations in countless ways!

When he’s not creating solutions for our clients, Mark loves spending time outdoors with his family and friends. He enjoys watching and playing Rugby, camping, snowboarding, and simply enjoying nature in Colorado with his wife and two children.

When asked about the future of technology and cybersecurity Mark says, “the future of technology and cybersecurity is a never-ending battle. Constant vigilance on both sides will always be necessary to keep up with advancements. Complacence will not be an option because anything can happen at any time – so it’s important to stay on top things!”

Meet Preston Proctor, our dedicated Support Engineer at K3 Technology. Originally from Nashville, Tennessee, Preston is now embarking on a thrilling new chapter in Colorado with his family. His excitement for the adventures that Colorado life holds is contagious, and it’s this positive energy he brings to his role every day. At the heart of his motivation are his wife and two children, who inspire him to be his best, both professionally and personally.

Preston is an iPhone enthusiast with a passion for family, creativity, and technology. When not busy solving tech challenges, he enjoys quality time with his family, delving into the imaginative worlds of video and tabletop games, and indulging his love for music – whether it’s creating, listening, or attending live shows. An avid reader, his favorite authors include Kurt Vonnegut and Douglas Adams, reflecting his taste for thought-provoking and humorous literature. What truly excites him about the tech industry is the endless opportunity for innovation and creating solutions that make a real difference in people’s lives. And while he’s a self-confessed homebody, enjoying meals in his own kitchen, Preston dreams of traveling to Japan, embracing new cultures and experiences.

Ryan is a dedicated Support Engineer who hails from South Africa. His journey in technology brought him to K3 Technology, where he thrives in a hybrid work environment that allows him to work from his office and engage in deep, intricate thought. Passionate about continuously enhancing his technical skills, Ryan looks forward to contributing even more to his team in the coming years.

Inspired by his colleague Curtis, Ryan aspires to reach the same level of expertise. He is an avid Android user and enjoys a variety of activities outside of work, including sailing, fishing, and playing soccer. Lake Tahoe is his dream destination, where he hopes to explore the hiking trails and indulge in watersports.

Ryan’s favorite dining spot is the Roma Revolving Restaurant, and he loves the dynamic nature of the technology industry, which keeps him learning and growing. His advice to newcomers in the tech field is to maintain an open mind and embrace mistakes as learning opportunities. Ryan appreciates the supportive and friendly culture at K3 Technology, which he finds amazing.

In his leisure time, Ryan enjoys reading “White Fang” and visiting Linus Tech Tips. A fun fact about Ryan is his enthusiasm for sailing, and he hopes to one day share this passion with his team.

Luke is an enthusiastic Systems Engineer who’s proud to call Colorado his home. Born and raised in Littleton, Luke kicked off his academic journey at CSU Pueblo, where he played soccer, before transferring to Metro to earn his Security Plus Certification. Luke’s passion for Managed IT Services began when he joined a startup and connected with its leadership. He thrived in operational security and soon fell in love with cybersecurity, making it his primary focus.

Luke’s favorite type of project involves on-site visits, as he genuinely enjoys meeting clients and building strong relationships with them. Luke’s favorite aspect of being a Systems Engineer is the continuous learning process. With the IT industry always evolving, he enjoys discovering and mastering new concepts and techniques that he can apply to both his professional and personal life. When he’s not working his tech magic, Luke embraces his inner nerd: he played soccer in college and has a special fondness for anime, which he appreciates for offering a window into the creators’ imaginations.

Sara asked someone to stick a needle through her nose, the really sensitive part of the nose. This means she’s tough enough to handle the most daunting customer support issues with grace and poise, which is why she leads our customer support team.

After 6 years at TeamViewer—a company famous for connecting people with technology—she was a natural fit to lead our service arm of the business here at K3. 

Siyabonga joins k3 from Johannesburg, the most stylish province in South Africa, as can be seen from his dapper profile pic.

Siyabonga takes pleasure in simplifying life for others, and it’s the source of his enthusiasm for IT support. The satisfaction he derives from ensuring that the customer experience is consistently excellent motivates him to improve continuously each day.

He aspires to be a cybersecurity officer who defends those at risk regarding technology and is confident we can prevail in the war against cybersecurity threats. we haven’t told him about the uprising of AI overlords yet. We just can’t break his heart like that.

An award-winning communications professional, Melissa has been in the marketing, public relations and media landscape for over 20 years. Skilled at transforming complex concepts into compelling stories, enhancing brand visibility and driving product awareness through strategic initiatives. She is also an extraordinary copy editor with a talent for managing content across diverse media platforms.

Melissa joins K3 after he most recent journey in Healthcare Tech where she fell in love with how technology empowers companies to deliver value for their clients.

Gilbert grew up in McKinney, Texas, after being born in North Carolina. As a Support Specialist at K3 Technology, he’s the first line of support, solving tech issues and helping clients become more efficient. He enjoys the hybrid work model, balancing in-person connection with remote flexibility. His motivation stems from the amazing support of his family and friends.

Passionate about fitness, Gilbert makes time for the gym to stay mentally and physically strong. When he’s not working out, you might catch him researching new topics on YouTube or jamming out on his guitar—he’s a talented singer with no stage fright.

Gilbert dreams of visiting Japan for its food and culture. His favorite restaurant? Gyu-Kaku Japanese BBQ. He loves how tech keeps him constantly learning, and he advises newcomers to stay curious, overcommunicate, and never be afraid to ask questions.
